A video from the North Carolina event shows Rakeem Jones being led out of the stadium by men in uniforms that read “Sheriff’s Office.” Then, seemingly unprovoked, he gets punched by a man in the crowd wearing a cowboy hat. Immediately afterwards, the uniformed men (presumably security) jump on Jones and handcuff him as he is lying on the ground. According to one of Jones’s friends who was filming the event, someone in the crowd then yelled, “Go home n—–s.”
While violence is not a new thing at Trump rallies—and Trump has done his part in encouraging it—it is becoming increasingly clear that protesters can’t rely on security at these events to keep them safe.
