There was a time when the international debutante parties were over, and
-if I am not mistaken- it was when the old ruling class silently but
resentfully passed its cachet and whatever real power it still possessed
over to the Kennedys and, within a decade, also to the other ethnics who
now ran, well, almost everything.
Well, the men (yes, there it was still men) who gathered at Davos were
always a little more important than the fathers of those young debs at
their coming out parties. But, already, last year, there was a
