When will the world realize that the world organization is a fraud? My God, Eleanor Roosevelt is already dead 45 years. There is no longer any reason for sentimentality about the United Nations. I've been writing this long enough. But here, just in case you missed my words, they're here, here, here, here and here. The Financial Times reported this morning that Zimbabwe (yes, Zimbabwe), of all countries, is about to become the chair of the UN's Commission on Sustainable Development. Zimbabwe's Minister of the Environment, Francis Nhema, will claim the post after having been nominated by the African caucus. As for sustainable development, the FT remarks, "Zimbabwe government policies are seen as having triggered its most severe economic crisis since independence, with annual inflation at 2,200 per cent." What Zimbabwe has "sustained" better than anything else over the past few years is a rapidly decreasing population, dying or fleeing by the thousands every week. And, please, Mayor Bloomberg, keeping the UN in New York only magnifies the egos of its administrators and the fake diplomats attached to the organization. Hey, here's an idea: let the UN go to Harare and spend its money there. Except that no one will come to the party.
