We all have thoughts that cross our minds during the course of a normal day that we, as functional adults, choose not to air for our own good and for the comfort of those around us. That’s a great thing. Unfortunately, elections seem to reverse that filtering dynamic, encouraging candidates to instantly voice the most ill-advised, bizarre ideas that pop in their heads.
This season, the spanking of Hillary Clinton has emerged as a theme among Republicans in the broader genre of “things grown-ups should know better than to say aloud.”
First Ted Cruz suggested American voters should metaphorically “spank” Hillary Clinton for allegedly lying about Benghazi, telling an Iowa crowd that, “In my house, if my daughter Catherine, the five-year-old, says something she knows to be false, she gets a spanking. Well, in America, the voters have a way of administering a spanking.”
Chris Christie, perhaps in an effort to follow the victor of Iowa’s Monday night caucuses, today aired his Clinton-spanking thoughts to journalists on a campaign bus in New Hampshire:
CHRISTIE on HILLARY: "I'll beat her rear end on that stage and afterward she'll be relieved that I didn't serve her with a subpoena."
