Guns, guns everywhere in Donald Trump’s America.

While President Obama was busy explaining to Americans why his executive orders to curb gun violence are necessary and long overdue, Donald Trump offered some counter-programming at a campaign rally in Burlington, Vermont.

“I will get rid of gun-free zones on schools, you have to,” he said. “And on military bases, my first day it gets signed, ok? My first day. There’s no more gun-free zones.”

That news might have come as a surprise to some of his own employees at the hotels and resorts bearing his name, since several of them are in fact gun-free zones.

Putting more guns in schools was the far-right’s response to the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012, with the NRA and its allies arguing that an armed guard could have prevented Adam Lanza from murdering 26 people. But the idea of good guys with guns preventing mass shootings is largely a myth.
