The country’s first magazine “by chubby men, for chubby men,” targeted at men in their 30s and 40s, hopes not only to tap into an oft-ignored readership, but also to help Japanese men fulfill their patriotic duty. Almost a third of Japanese men are considered overweight, and editor Norihito Kurashina hopes to give them the confidence to date, and maybe even marry and ease Japan’s impending demographic crisis.
Jack Black graces the first issue, which sold over 25,000 copies in its initial print run, a healthy number by industry standards.
