Bernie Sanders turned a question about profiling Muslims into a rant about income inequality, because of course he did.

The Vermont senator was asked about the San Bernardino mass killings and whether Americans should engage in “profiling” of Muslims. He said that if you see someone loading assault weapons into a car, you should call 911—“It’s a no-brainer.”

But then Sanders switched gears to his most comfortable talking point. He attempted to connect the middle class’ economic struggles with Donald Trump’s fear-mongering, and the ease of scapegoating when those two forces collide.

It’s an issue worth debating, but he didn’t exactly answer the question.
