Chris Christie’s Los Angeles is stuck in the sexist 1950s.

In his opening statement, Christie invoked today’s bomb hoax against the L.A. Unified School district as evidence of President Obama’s failure to fight terrorism and wondered aloud how the resulting school closure would affect children and parents in California:

Think about the mothers who will take those children tomorrow morning to the bus stop, wondering if their children will arrive back on that bus safe and sound. Think about the fathers of Los Angeles who tomorrow will head off to work and wonder about the safety of their wives and their children.”

It seems like parents in Christie’s L.A. have some very specific gender roles: the women are taking the kids to school, while the men go to work. Christie must not be aware that women make up over 40 percent of the workforce in California.
